SRD Grant (R370) Questions

What is the SRD grant?

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is a monthly payment of R370 provided to unemployed South Africans aged 18-59 who are not receiving any other form of social assistance or UIF payment. It was initially introduced as COVID-19 relief but has been extended.

How do I apply for the SRD grant?

Do I need to reapply for SRD every month?

When will I receive my grant payment?

How do I receive my grant payment?

Old Age Grant Questions

When can I apply for an Old Age Grant?

You can apply for an Old Age Grant three months before your 60th birthday. Payments begin from the month you turn 60, provided your application is approved.

How much is the Old Age Grant?

As of 2024/2025, the Old Age Grant is R2,190 per month for applicants under 75 years, and R2,210 per month for those 75 and older. These amounts are subject to annual increases.

Can I work and still receive an Old Age Grant?

Yes, you can work and receive an Old Age Grant. However, there are income thresholds. If you're married, your combined income must not exceed R11,600 per month. If you're single, your income must not exceed R5,800 per month.

Child Support Grant Questions

Who can apply for a Child Support Grant?

The primary caregiver of a child under 18 can apply. This is usually a parent but can be a grandparent, other family member, or legal guardian who is the main person caring for the child.

How much is the Child Support Grant?

As of 2024/2025, the Child Support Grant is R530 per month per child. You can receive this grant for multiple children if you are the primary caregiver for each child.

What is the means test for Child Support Grant?

For a single caregiver, your income must not exceed R5,500 per month. For married caregivers, combined income must not exceed R11,000 per month. These thresholds are reviewed annually.

Disability Grant Questions

What qualifies as a disability for the grant?

A physical, mental, or medical condition that makes you unable to work for more than 6 months (temporary) or permanently. A medical assessment by a SASSA-appointed doctor determines your eligibility.

How much is the Disability Grant?

As of 2024/2025, the Disability Grant is R2,190 per month. This is the same amount as the Old Age Grant.

Do I need to reapply for a Disability Grant?

Temporary disability grants must be renewed after 6 or 12 months with updated medical assessments. Permanent disability grants don't require renewal, but SASSA may conduct periodic reviews.

Account & Security Questions

How do I update my contact details?

What if I lost my SASSA card?
