Official Payment Schedule for All Social Grants
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially released the payment schedule for all social grants for April 2027. Beneficiaries can now plan accordingly as payments will commence from April 1st, 2027. SASSA has confirmed that all payments will be made according to the following schedule. Please note that these dates apply to all payment methods including bank transfers, mobile money, and cash collection points.
Official Payment Dates - April 2027
- Tuesday, April 1st: Older Persons' Grants (Age 60+)
- Wednesday, April 2nd: Disability Grants
- Thursday, April 3rd: Child Support, Care Dependency, and Foster Care Grants
- April 1-30: Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grants - Rolling payment throughout the month
- April 1-30: War Veterans' Grants
Important Information for Beneficiaries
SASSA urges all grant recipients to take note of the following important details regarding April payments:
1. Early Payment Due to Public Holiday
As Easter Monday falls on April 21st, 2027, beneficiaries who would normally receive payments on that day will receive their grants on the preceding working day. SASSA will send SMS notifications to affected beneficiaries with their adjusted payment dates.
2. Payment Methods
Beneficiaries can receive their grants through various convenient channels:
- Direct Bank Deposit: Funds will be available in your account on the payment date
- South African Post Office: Cash collection available at over 1,600 branches nationwide
- Selected Retailers: Pick 'n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, and Checkers stores offering cash payment services
- ATM Withdrawals: Use your SASSA card at any ATM (standard withdrawal fees apply)
- Mobile Money: Available through participating mobile network providers
3. Grant Amount Updates
April 2027 brings important increases to several grant categories following the annual inflation adjustment:
- Old Age Pension: R2,180 per month (up from R2,070)
- Older Persons Grant (75+): R2,200 per month
- Disability Grant: R2,180 per month
- Child Support Grant: R520 per child (up from R500)
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,180 per month
- Foster Child Grant: R1,200 per child
- SRD Grant: R400 per month (up from R370)

What to Bring When Collecting Your Grant
When collecting your grant at a pay point, ensure you have the following documents:
- Your green barcoded ID book or Smart ID card (original, not a copy)
- Your SASSA card (if applicable)
- Proof of residence (if requested for verification purposes)
If Someone is Collecting on Your Behalf
If you're unable to collect your grant personally, your designated representative must bring:
- Their own valid ID document
- Your ID document (original)
- A sworn affidavit confirming authorization (if first-time collection)
- Your SASSA card (if applicable)
COVID-19 Safety Measures Continue
While restrictions have eased, SASSA continues to implement safety measures at pay points:
- Hand sanitizer stations at all entry points
- Adequate spacing in queuing areas
- Regular sanitization of high-touch surfaces
- Masks available for those who wish to wear them
Vulnerable beneficiaries, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions, are encouraged to visit pay points during off-peak hours (typically between 10 AM and 2 PM) to avoid long queues.
Extended Operating Hours at Selected Offices
To accommodate the high volume of beneficiaries during the first week of April, SASSA has announced extended operating hours at major regional offices:
- First three days (April 1-3): 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- Regular hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
- Saturday, April 5th: Selected offices open from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Missed Your Payment Window?
If you miss collecting your grant during the scheduled payment period, don't worry. Your funds remain available for collection. However:
- Uncollected grants older than 90 days will be reversed to SASSA
- You can reclaim reversed funds by visiting your nearest SASSA office with your ID
- It's recommended to collect within 30 days to avoid administrative complications
